Eligibility
TCU Regular Employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week per HR Records are eligible to participate in Healthcare Plans, Retirement Plans, Life & Disability, and additional benefits.
TCU Temporary Employees working a minimum of 30 hours per week per HR records are eligible to participate in TCU's medical plan only.
Who are Qualifying Dependents?
You may enroll your eligible family members in the healthcare plans you choose for yourself. You will be asked to provide your dependent's Social Security number and date of birth when enrolling.
If any of your dependents no longer meet the eligibility rules and are considered ineligible, you must take action immediately to remove them from your plan. Please contact HR for more information.

Who Qualifies as a Legal Spouse?
For the purpose of benefits eligibility, a legal spouse is defined as:
- An individual to whom you are legally married under the laws of any U.S. state or recognized jurisdiction.
Note:
- Common-law marriages are not recognized in California. Simply living together or presenting yourselves as married does not qualify as a legal marriage.
- Proof of marriage may be required when enrolling a spouse in benefit plans.

Your Current Registered Domestic Partner
Who Qualifies as a Domestic Partner?
For the purpose of benefits eligibility, a legal spouse is defined as:
- To qualify as a registered domestic partner, both individuals must have filed a Declaration of Domestic Partnership with the California Secretary of State in accordance with California Family Code Section 297.
- Under California Family Code Section 297, a registered domestic partner is recognized by the State of California and is generally afforded the same rights, protections, and responsibilities as a spouse under state law.
Note:
- The IRS does not recognize domestic partners as eligible dependents. Therefore, domestic partner premiums contributed to the employee by TCU are considered taxable income for ferderal tax purposes.
- Proof of domestic partnership may be required when enrolling them in benefit plans.

Child(ren)
A child who has one of the following relationships to you and is under 26 years old:
- Biological child
- Legally adopted child
- Step child
- Child of domestic partner
- Court appointent ward
Disabled Child(ren) Age 26+
Disabled overage adult child(ren) can continue their healthcare coverage provided they meet the definition of "fully disabled". Proof of disability must be submitted in writing no later than 30 days prior to the date the dependent coverage would have ceased.
